Just a little doodle to celebrate

‼️ME QUITTING MY JOB AND DOING ADHD COMICS FULL TIME‼️

It’s a long story and my patreons had to listen to a lot of my whining about being super burnt out and exhausted, but they gave me the support and convinced me to do this step - for my sanity and my own growth.

The upside to me “failing” at my job and being so burnt out is that you all get to see all of it in future comics YAY✨

Thank all of you so much for your support. When I started this I thought I would be doing this secret little side thing and if I get lucky I would have 100 followers by the end of the year. Thank you all and especially my patreons for making this possible 💕 Big things to come 🤫

adhd-alien:

A very simplified overview over the 3 diagnosable types of ADHD. It’s highly likely that you have symptoms from across the spectrum and not exclusively “hyperactive” or “inattentive” - that’s why I see ADHD( and ADD) as one big family. Look up the DSM-V for the actual symptom list!

I didn’t really think about social media formatting when making this, in case the big image isn’t readable, maybe these are :)

Why I didn’t get diagnosed until 28 and was told I’m “too quiet” to have ADHD

(Alternative title: How instead of getting ADHD treatment I developed Anxiety to cope)

I think I’ve had identity issues most of my life because my ADHD would switch between extremes that made not much sense when paired up.

Quick Q&A!!

Q: Can you make more comics with coping skills for ADHD?

A: I’m on it! I’m not the best at coping myself (im terrible at it still) so I need a lot of time to research, iterate and plan out those huge comic layouts. I mostly make these comics in my free time and right now I’m doing overtime so these work intensive things have to wait a bit :<

Q: Can I get this as a book? Or a print?

A: Also on it! I need to get enough comics together to fill at least a tiny book and am working on a shop!

Q: Can I print out a comic and show it to my school / use it for my presentation

A: Yes! Feel free to! If you print my stuff out to share with your class, Id love if you’d support me on patreon ❤️ I hope it goes without saying that selling/ making ad revenue from my stuff is a no-no.

Q: Can I put this on my homepage / my Facebook group?

A: Please ask before publishing it on your website. For social media, I’d really appreciate if people could share my posts instead of re-posting! (Im on all Social Media)

Q: Can I translate your comics?

A: I’ve gathered a few people who will help me translate the comic into a bunch of languages!

Thank you all for your incredible and overwhelming support! Literally!! Sorry if you have messaged me and I haven’t answered. I read all of them, they cheer me up and give me courage when ADHD-deniers get me down. I’ve screenshotted a good bunch that I’ll print out and put on my Alien office wall >:). Just to let you all know, I get about 40(?) messages the day of a new comic on all social media combined so it’s a bit hard to keep up with writing 💦

ADHD behavior can be full of contradictions. I often see people give reasons as to why someone else can’t have it and almost every time that reason either doesn’t contradict ADHD, or can be even more of a sign for it.

Long shot here, but is there a part 2 to this about treated adhd? For, like, closure.

adhd-alien:

‪The incorrect and negative beliefs we can get from years of negative feedback not knowing we have ADHD or how it affects our lives. While not everything is solely caused by ADHD, it can affect us and our comorbidities in many, many ways. Good news is, treating ADHD can do wonders for Anxiety and Depression!

Your mind is never going to be “empty” of thoughts and that’s okay! That’s not the point anyway.

The point is to let them go, to let them flow, and to not focus on them. It’s less structured daydreaming. Stream of consciousness daydreaming, if you will.

seasonallydefective:

So I finally figured out that the goal of meditation is not to NOT have thoughts … it’s to not let your thoughts bother you. NOT push them away … just observe. It’s about learning to calm yourself when stressful things cross your mind and move your focus to the idea of peace.

It’s a muscle you have to flex for it to really be something you can do well and easily, but once you realize the goal is to re-focus on feeling peaceful (or even a pleasant memory, or a nice feeling …) no matter what is in your head, you start to approach it differently. And I say this as someone with ADHD and severe anxiety.

It’s not for everyone … for some people, observing all your thoughts is scary and/or overwhelming! And that’s okay. Sometimes I need to stim to clear my head. Or go for a walk/drive. Or take a shower and sit on the ground and cry. But I do hope my clarifications might help some people who want to meditate but are having trouble!

whimsycreator:

crying has done more to calm and clear my head than meditation ever has

I admire people who can meditate, but some of us simply can’t. For me, task shifting is simply too hard! I Can’t stop thinking about what I was doing. This doesn’t mean we cant utilize other strategies to help us with mindfulness. I actually play rhythm games (Beat Saber) to “meditate”. Or I go out with the dog and have a nice long walk. What have you found for yourself?

Singing in the bath helps me calm down better than anything else, except maybe crocheting. Thank you @adhd-alien ❤❤❤

A lot of people are sharing tips on what meditation can really be and it’s sounding good for my ADHD butt. So you guys have any knowledge about meditation you want people to know? Like there is freaking walking meditation??? Why did no one tell me

Also if we could have a special name for ADHD meditation, what would you like? (Because only hearing the word “meditation” makes me already uncomfortable)
