I deadass thought this was 3 Star Wars movies

its called Color Theory and we been knew. “Art is subjective” but there are certain “rules” you can follow to make things more appealing in a subconscious/subliminal kind of way.

once you see it, you cant unsee it.

This is just my opinion ™ but I’m with OP. Yeah there are certain rules in art to consistently create appeal, but  most of these posters are almost carbon copies of each other, and there really isn’t an excuse for that. Color theory is just a tool, and one piece of composition. Most of these posters are indistinguishable not just because they’re using the same color theory. They’re using the same composition lines, crop area, lighting scheme etc. They are also for the most part color corrected photobashed images.

There are way more colors (and combos) out there than orange, blue, and red

More ways to convey an idea than putting figures and faces together

Even by simply playing with the framing you can maintain actor appeal while still having a standout poster

And even in the conventional poster design parameters you can see a big difference when the colors aren’t just airbrushed on top of the main content.

There are an infinite variety of ways to put together an image, movie posters aren’t the exception.

The limiting factor is how much the publisher, or studio is willing to put into the posters

And while I understand the main art being created here is the film, not the advertisement, I do think it’s a shame that so many studios fall back on the same solutions rather than investing in something unique and closer to the heart of the film.

I recently saw a meme on Facebook that said something along the lines of “how to make a millennial panic: lock them in a room with only a phone book and a rotary phone and write the instructions in cursive!” It had this smug “aha, gotcha” vibe oozing out of it, and it…just sort of made me laugh. Like, really? Really? But it also made me think…

Beyond the fact that I know how to use both a phone book and a rotary phone and can read cursive (as long as it’s not too horrifically messy), I think it was the attitude of “Oh no, we’ve got you because you couldn’t possibly figure out how to use something that’s new to you” that really made me snort. But I think that’s the key to this and similar memes that I’ve seen.

They don’t think we could figure out how to use something new to us, because they can’t do it.

Like, if you presented a millennial with a rotary phone or a phone book and they had never, ever used one or seen one used before, I can guarantee pretty much any millennial could figure out how to use it. Because that’s what we do: we adapt. We’ve been through so many variations of technology and seen so many new forms of technology emerge that we’ve had to learn to adapt swiftly and fluidly. It’s second nature to us.

Put a boomer in a room with a smartphone, laptop, and tablet however, and well…different story.

I’m not sure if they literally don’t understand that presenting a millennial with something they haven’t encountered before would not be an obstacle and certainly not a panic-inducing one, or if they just say things like that to make themselves feel better that they couldn’t do the equivalent, or if it’s a combination of the above.

I just realized that the original meme is also, quite accidentally, basically describing the principle behind….. escape rooms.

You know, the recent popular trend in participatory entertainment in which thousands of millennials literally go out and pay money to voluntarily be locked in a room where they have to solve puzzles under a time pressure, often using antiquated or analog technology, secret codes, and mechanisms they don’t yet understand, all without using their phones/the internet. For fun.

For many of us, that’s not panic-inducing, that’s just our idea of an enjoyable Saturday night out with some friends!

Now I’m just laughing even harder.

Don’t ever underestimate how much hate these conversion groups are full of and if you exclude asexuals from our community fuck you, you’re just like the zealot bastards.

bananonbinary:

5) if you admit to not feeling attraction, a common reaction is that you’re unwell, unstable, maybe unable to love at all, are you violent???? because asexuality as a term in the public consciousness is so new, a lot of aphobia is also wrapped up in plain old ableism. very similar to the “you cant feel empathy and thus are an ~insane criminal~” stereotype that autistic people get.

remember that conversion therapy is ostensibly “nice.” it’s supposed to “help” you, to “fix” you. it doesn’t come from people who actually admit they just hate their target. thats why its so popular with ace kids, even if the parent doesnt care if they’re having sex or not, they’re angry and upset that the child admitted to feeling differently, and immediately classified them in the “dangerous mentally ill person” category.

fuckyeahasexual:

Also people should stop reblogged this with “why would a parent kick a kid out for not having sex??.”

1) Stop equating sexuality to behavior. Don’t do it with gay people, don’t do it for ace people.

2) Faith based groups, especially those who are not pro-LGBTQ don’t magically see aces as acceptable. They view them as not-straight therefore wrong.

3) If you are abstinent it’s supposed to be a sacrifice you suffer through to show your strong faith. Sex is meant to be your reward for being married. Being abstinent in a faith based groups works until you are meant to get married, be fruitful, or summit to your husband. The moment you decide you don’t want any of that for yourself now or in the future it’s a seen as a problem.

4) You’ll note that lots of number 3 is sexism, sex negativity, and the forced continuation of nuclear families something that directly and indirectly adds to homophobia and transphobia. And instead of saying “hey this ace, this victim of abuse, gives us an opportunity to discuss all of those wrongs in society, plenty of people just reblog “but why would you kick a virgin out??”

Learn what asexuality is, and how our fight for liberation has benefits for everyone.

fuckyeahasexual:

Also to everyone like “this fake, aces don’t get offered conversion therapy”

In this recent UK study cis asexuals were the most likely to have conversion therapy equal to cis gay/lesbian people. And the most likely to have it offered.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/721704/LGBT-survey-research-report.pdf

Stop basically yelling Fake News!1 and re-evaluate why you refuse to listen to victims of abuse.

softened-hearts:

Cute how people who say this shit dont say transphobia doesnt exist just because shitty parents might kick out a trans kid because they think it’s because they’re gay. It’s all terrible and parents being bigoted and neglectful and abusive. To parents like that it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or trans or ace, it’s all the same to them and they don’t want you in their family.

Using this as a “gotcha” to belittle the experiences of those who’ve gotten kicked out after coming out with the bonus of not even being believed for what they came out as is disgusting.

If you’re someone who’s so wrapped up in your exclusionary ideology that you’re denying the experiences of fucking children kicked out of their homes and abused after coming out, for the love of whatever you believe/don’t believe in, fucking re-evaluate.

me, learning about the greek pantheon in elementary: wow, I love athena, so brave and smart

me, after reading about the story of medusa: athena is a spiteful, dumb bitch who can’t direct her anger at the right people! wack ass hoe

Me, after learning than Medusas head was used as a sign of safety and female autonomy in women’s spaces because it was seen as a gift from Athena, to allow Medusa never to be harmed that way again: oh dope, Athenas on our side. Kill a man who dares to look upon you with possession in his heart.

Me, after learning that Athena holds herself to the ‘not like other girls’ standard and usuallys sides with whatever the nearest dick-toting diety says: what the fuck what a fake bitch

Me, after learning that most of the media depicting Greek Gods by the ancient Greeks that survives today was commissioned, designed, and made by men, and therefore does not depict female interpretation or telling of the myths, and is probably extremely biased towards a misogynistic portrayal of a strong woman: the canon Athena was in our hearts all along.

Me, after hearing the myth about Athena cursing Arachne into the first spider because she beat the goddess in a weaving contest: What a bitch ? The Arrogance.

Me, after hearing there are three versions of the myth, and the others have Arachne hang herself in shame so Athena brought her back to life as a spider and the third version having Zeus curse the loser to never touch a spindle wheel and when Arachne lost Athena took pity on her and transformed her so she could weave without breaking her oath: Goddess just wanted this fine artist to weave forever, doing what she loved. she ain’t that bitch

They handled the subject of gender identity so well, but too bad for the reaction of the mother at the end of the episode.

I hope more people watch this anime because it’s a real gem!!

Seriously, in addition to Yuu’s storyline as a non-binary character, other topics this series explores and handles excellently include:

  • Domestic violence
  • The dynamics of parental abuse, both mental and physical, and it’s (very realistically portrayed) long-term psychological impact on it’s victims
  • The social stigma attached to lone parents and so-called ‘broken families’ unfortunately still prevelant in Japan
  • Homophobia
  • Living with a disfigurement
  • Living with poor self-esteem and anger management issues
  • Bullying and social isolation
  • Adoption and the insecurities/identity issues that can be felt by adopted children

The series name is Hoshiai no Sora and seriously, please give it a watch.

Ok first of all I applaud your dedication to this and second of all I read every source and I encourage all my followers to do so as well thanks science side of tumblr

satanshagger:

there are reasons for this, actually!

tumblr is set up as what is scientifically referred to as a “factual state” - meaning, in short, that our brains perceive the majority of what we read on it as factual. (source) this is why there are so little colour schemes on it and why dark mode/low colour mode took so long to be implemented, as tumblr didn’t want to mess this up. here’s a list of colours which help to enhance that mindset and manipulate people into thinking that what they are reading is true - you’ll see that almost all of the previous shades of blue used on tumblr are there.

but why is this a thing? studies have actually shown that tumblr aims to push information on us that will, actually, assist governments.

yeah. it’s scary. that’s also why tumblr was sold for such a low amount - because if it fit these specifications, it would have to be listed here; a site, for those of you that don’t want to click the link, that lists all well known social medias that cannot legally be used to spread propaganda. which is also why facebook is up in arms about that whole political advertising shitstorm.

tumblr is generally advertised as the “shitty blogging website with bad staff” because they want to cover this with incompetence, or an impression of it - studies show that our brains are not able to link sinister means with a feeling of utter uselessness.

tumblr’s users are often also struggling with mental health issues - it is thought that up to 68% of users may be depressed and therefore, easier to target with this information.

tl;dr is that you absolutely should not trust half the shit you see on tumblr, because unfortunately, up to 13% of blogs are only created to spread false information for a larger purpose.

additional sources:

ice-block:

Remember when someone on tumblr would post a rhetorical question like “I wonder why all us neurodivergent people love the rain so much” and someone would make up some garbage like “well you see rain carries negative particles (which is why you get depressed if you drink rainwater) and since neurodivergent people are depressed the negative particles feel natural to them uwu” and everyone would be like “thanks science side of tumblr”

This is the best description I’ve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than “tap your head 20 times”.

I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like you’re “hearing” something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like it’s “inside my head”, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!

OH MY FUCKING GOD IT WORKED!

Ive had tintinis my whole life and its just… fucking gone. What the fuck

I just tried this! I think it seriously works!

This has been added on the reddit thread and I think this might be useful here as well, since you can actually see the method demonstrated:
