I haven’ talked to PSG yet. Ancelotti is a possibility. What we knew is that Ancelotti was free after this season, but then apparently not anymore. From one side, there was a saying of Ancelotti extending his contract if he won the league. Another saying was that [the club & Ancelotti] came to an agreement for him to go away after the season ended. I don’t have an opinion other than what I’ve been hearing. I haven’t talked to [Heynckes], we will know tomorrow what his future will be. Tomorrow we will start working, without a hurry, to choose the adequate coach for Madrid.
It’s hard to find a substitute for Mourinho. He is a man with great intensity, very demanding and whatever he goes to, he leaves a mark. It’s not a matter of asking him to stay or asking him to go. At the end, after a conversation we had, we concluded that the best was [that he left]. We thought that the best for him and the best for us, was [that he left]. Nobody has won, nor nobody has lost. What I can say with my experience is that the relationship of a coach with his player after a period of time, deteriorates. Psychologically, the time comes when one thinks it’s better to start a new adventure with new people. There has been certain criticisms [from the press] that have been taken out of normality. I personally, someone who has been in the football industry for many years, dislike them. I don’t even want to repeat [what the press has said to Mou] but they are things that are very far from a responsible press.
On the press
The press in Madrid is a press for all of Spain. It’s very different from other places where people are not “ashamed” of defending the team they support. Here it seems there is a type of bad conscience if you defend the team of your city because they always try to be national journalists.
Casillas has not been the problem of Mourinho. He knows, like all of us, that Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the world. What happened is that the level of demand that Mourinho asks has affected Casillas, has affected Cristiano… To demand Casillas more is absolutely magnificent. I think the best quality of [Mourinho] is the demand level, with himself and his players. And because this year we didn’t start very well, Mourinho has increased that level of demand even more and that also produced greater tension. I think that demand is very good because Real Madrid always has to be on top, with a great intensity, and hunger. In Madrid professionalism is first, whoever [a new coach] places politics above professionalism would fail for sure.
I’ve always heard from the players good things about the coach from the professional point of view. The media because of personal interest, take the truth to another level. Casillas/Mourinho’s relationship has always been good. If the coach later understands that Casillas or any other player, needs a greater level of demand then he gives him the attention required. It something that does not have to be taken to the personal level. They don’t have have to go to the movie theater together.
The daily coexistence in this company, in any company, in the family, it’s difficult. Seeing each other everyday, It produces friction. But the press takes it to a level that it is not true, this is something that we simply call coexistence. Everything that happens in Madrid is different. Nothing is normal, every little thing goes to a ridiculous level. I think losing 8 points after the first 4 games caused pressure, and after three years I think that was the main reason for the decision of Jose Mourinho to leave.
I’ve always heard [Mou] say that he has been in many clubs, that he has many of in his heart, but that Real Madrid is on another level. There has been very unfair attacks [towards Mou] and it would be ridiculous that I did not defend my people.
Bale is one of those great players that exist in Europe at the moment, and Real Madrid likes great players. But like I said before, we have to improve the team. We have to do it calmly so we don’t make mistakes, see if we have the money. Something we will be doing over the next few weeks. We have to know what we want and what is best for the team. Footballers are neither expensive, nor cheap. They are an investment. The more expensive players are what we call an investment, if they are very good they produce the money back to the club.
The only thing [Gonzalo] is wrong about is that the club has never put him on sale. Never. Last year when I also heard that he wanted to leave, I wondered if he wanted to pay the clause. Any player who wants to leave has to pay the clause. Let’s leave it like it is, we would talk and see what we conclude. In this club if you want to leave, you know what to do. I don’t know his clause. It’s very hard for a player to leave if the club doesn’t want him to go. There has not been any offers for [Gonzalo]. Juventus have never told us anything. You cannot talk to a player without the permission of the club.
Cristiano is the best player in the world, therefore he has to be the best paid player in the world. [The madridistas] know that we would love for him to retire at Real Madrid, and I think he will retire here. We will win la décima with Cristiano as a player [of Madrid].
Zidane has matured a lot all these years that he has been with us. He is very madridista. For us is a great satisfaction to have a person like Zizou outside of the pitch. Above him we want to make the new Madrid for the next four years. When we get the new coach, we will see what position he will be taking. But at the moment he is the one in charge of everything.
If you got to the USA or China, Kaká is the most known player. From the economic viewpoint, it has been great for us. From the sport viewpoint, it has not been great. If I was Ancelotti and I was coach of Real Madrid, I would try to retrieve him.
